Gait dysfunctions are changes in your normal walking pattern. These can sometimes be the result of a disease or abnormality in different area of the body such as Parkinson’s disease, muscle weakness, muscular dystrophy, peripheral neuropathy, or vertigo. Gait dysfunctions are a common cause of falls.
How can physical therapy help?
A comprehensive evaluation will help us to determine what is specifically impacting your gait. A treatment plan will be developed and may include activities to: strengthen muscles involved in the gait cycle, practice elements of normal gait, re-train balance and coordination functions, and training on varied surfaces to adequately challenge your system.
